Some years ago the orthodontists discovered that a special form of peroxide - peroxide carbamide – reaches excellent results in removing spots from the surface of teeth. Shortly afterwards the peroxide carbamide was changed into a gel and became a basis agent for domestic bleaching.

Physicians were already using the peroxide carbamide as oral antiseptics for number of years prior to that. If applied with a use of a special carrier this agent allows to cover the teeth with a thin layer of peroxide for several hours. Perfecta

In our clinic Alfadent we offer you two types of whitening gels. The first one is used by a client two times a day for one hour. The second one is a gel where the whitening takes only half an hour.

How is this teeth whitening done? After performing cleaning of your teeth the dentist takes impressions of your upper and lower teeth. According to these impressions working models will be constructed in the dental lab. With a help of the models the individual whitening carriers will be made. These carriers are tested and eventually adjusted in time of client´s second visit to the dentist where the client also receives package of a gel including instructions on a home use. Although the whole process takes two weeks the result shows already within few days.

Can pregnant women undergo the teeth whitening procedure? Up to this date no dangerous effects on pregnant women and nursing mothers have been proved. Nevertheless, it is recommended to consult this with your GP and dentist.

Can the teeth whitening damage my gums? Overfilling the carrier, insufficient or inadequate placement of the carrier can cause irritation of your gums. Maintaining the principles there are usually no side effects. On the contrary, the condition of gums often improves after the teeth whitening process is completed.

Are there other side effects? Some patients report temporary sensitivity of teeth to cold and heat. This phenomenon usually occurs during the first week of the whitening process in which case your dentist suggests treatment effectively reducing the sensitivity of your teeth.
